BBMak Attack

BBMak is back. After two years, the British pop trio of Ste McNally, Christian Burns and Mark Barry have returned to the spotlight with Into Your Head. Their catchy first single, "Out of My Heart," is becoming quite popular on XL 106.7, and the album promises similar success.

Perhaps what has made BBMak so popular is that it's no ordinary boy band. The guys play their own instruments, write and produce their own songs and can sing without heavy background music. They've been compared to Savage Garden and the Goo Goo Dolls, which may explain why their latest effort is much more guitar-driven than their previous album.

A few songs stand apart from the rest. "After All Is Said and Done" depicts the break-up of a relationship from the guy's point of view. He knows he screwed up and there's nothing he can do to fix it: "After all is said and done/ I know I'm not the only one/ To have had it all and thrown it all away." Another outstanding song is "Sympathy," also about a relationship, but this time the guy is the one being dumped. He's pretty hurt, but he knows one thing: He doesn't want her feeling sorry for him.

All together, the songs produce one amazing album. The guys' harmonies fit perfectly with the compositions. Most of the songs are upbeat, making it hard not to sing and dance along. Despite rumors that the band was becoming more rock-oriented, this album suggests otherwise. While there are more guitar solos and other classic rock characteristics, the band still has that unmistakable "light and fun" sound. So not to worry, BBMak is still more pop than rock.

And if great music isn't enough, just pop the CD into your computer. A limited-edition version of the album includes the video for "Out of My Heart," photos of the guys, commentaries on all the songs and a link to "The Loft" with exclusive audio and video clips. BBMak fans will not only love this album, but they are sure to enjoy the very cool extras. Of course, if you're not a fan of the group, that's OK too. Take a chance and check out Into Your Head. I guarantee you won't be sorry.
